On June 18, 2012, we plan to begin our great adventure of biking from Emma, Indiana to Sioux Lookout, Ontario. This is a total of a little over 1,000 miles, and our plans are to complete the trip in 13 days.
While we know we will feel an immense sense of accomplishment and victory when we arrive at our destination, we also want this trip to be about more than just us. So we decided to use this trip to raise money for Ashawaabic Ministries.
Ashawaabic Ministries is run by Morley and Reta Beardy. They provide support for survivors of suicide with dealing and healing for their loss. Each year they host a Memorial Gathering in memory of their daughter Ruth Ann. They host the memorial gathering in May and it is planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Beardys invite speakers and musicians to have workshops and there is time for singing planned each day. The focus is Suicide Awareness & Prevention and Recovery. It is also a support for those families that have lost loved ones to suicide. This ministry is supported entirely by donations, and we would like to help them.
And here's where you come in. We are "selling" our miles to raise money for this organization. By clicking on the Donate button on the right side of this page, you can buy miles for $5.00 each, and we will see if we can make our route reach Sioux Lookout by the time we leave!
Our own expenses on this trip- lodging, food, equipment, time off of work- will not be paid with these donations. Every penny we get will be passed on to Ashawaabic Ministries.
